Those Who Hate

“Those who Hate”

So? Am I alone in my contempt for the contemptuous? Is my hate for the hateful – justifiable? It’s just that there’s so much animus out there. I can turn off the news and to attempt to surround myself with positive, optimistic people – or quite possibly I can escape – I can sequester myself by settling in a pristine wilderness area; No electricity; No miserable violent television programs; No predatory acts; No drugs, alcohol or tobacco. No more frustration regarding the fact that “we” as an advanced race – direct the brunt of our intellectual, technological and monetary resources towards regression and not progression. Yes, I have personal choices to make – I can embrace a life that is altruistic – or – I can simply “escape”. However settling in a pristine wilderness area — well — I’m uncertain just how different it is from using drugs or alcohol to withdraw. In either instance – I’m not exactly facing life head-on as a mature, responsible adult. But I must confess that there are realities that are not simply beyond my control – there are aspects of life that remain well outside the realm of logic or reason. I simply cannot grasp why we as members of the very same family are unquestionably far more concerned with satiating our acquisitive nature – than we are with helping those worthy of assistance. We appear to be far more preoccupied with maintaining a nationalistic stance – with the progression of “our people” – “of our citizenry” – yes, “our Country” – with sustaining “our way of life” — than we are with simply pulling together to explore – to colonize the moon – perhaps mars; To confront the Jihad-ist mentality – to contend with terrorism with an overwhelming international force ; To tackle cancer and dozens of other lethal and debilitating diseases; To create new antibiotics and antivirals. Why can’t we pull together to stop the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction; To confront malevolent potentates who have no regard for the universal codification of Man? And why in God’s holy name – can’t we agree that “WE” are not to use innocent helpless children as pawns in order to convey any message; To target civilians in order to vent rage or contempt towards a religion, a Country or a concept. Why can’t we agree that we are not to kill in order to attempt to please – God. That if we must fight – that we are to fight as men who are to abide by a universally recognized code of conduct and not to behave as unprincipled savages. How is it that “we” cannot recognize the fact that terrorism – not only blasphemes God – terrorism transmogrifies doctrinal precepts into apocrypha; it nullifies that which once appeared to be apodictic and it turns people away from God and God away from people.
