Toxic People

“Toxic People”

Ah, there’s nothing like having toxic people in your life – relatives – kith in general and we can’t disregard those who are toxic professionals or mavens. And what in God’s name do we do with relatives who are oblivious to the fact that they are a negative influence in you life? The answer is that if you can’t reason with them – if you can’t change them – perhaps it’s time to take a therapeutic break?

I, personally made the “mistake” of venting my anger towards my sister (who is three and one half years my senior) who molested me when she was age twelve or so. (Certainly she should have known better – all it did was to create unresolved animus between us. She attributed my written assault on her – due to mental illness. She offered me no apology or explanation for her dysfunctional behaviors or for her past multiple indiscretions. (I have difficulties with other relatives over other relevant issues as well.) My response it that “I will go it alone!)

Other toxic persons in my life were in great abundance while I was working as a tradesman. My first question to any prospective customer was, “have you ever been satisfied with the work of previous persons you employed?” If the answer is “no” or – rarely — I simply wisely moved on to the next potential job.

Toxic friends? I simply need to find new ones.

What I find very curious is that most toxic people are unaware of their toxicity.

Drug addicts and alcoholics are by far the worst “offenders”. Because those who benumb themselves habitually and over a long period of time – rarely have an opportunity to grow up. And as such they are oblivious to their extraordinary abundant shortcomings.

What I have experienced in my 56 years of life is that most toxic persons are inept and are usually the most “perfectionistic” or critical. “They” usually know very little about the world – from cars, houses and electronics to politics and the social sciences. They know little or nothing beyond their myopic universe or alleged expertise.

They – critical perfectionists – can be a savant in a particular field – but trust me – the great majority of these persons are even incapable of wiping their own backsides with competence.

(Rich, spoiled widows who went through life reclined on their backs with their legs spread – are usually the worst offenders!)

Those who go through life – dissatisfied with everyone else – are merely seeing a reflection of their own self-perception. Are you one of these toxic individuals? Honestly – what are you capable of doing – competently? If your response is – truthfully – not a hell-of-a-lot – you are a toxic biped!
